5 Ways to Stress Free Mornings for Parents.

5 Ways to Stress Free Mornings for Parents

Every Mom and Dad with school age kids has a

'morning rush'. It's that 'trying time'

of 'trying to find stuff'

 - matching socks, backpacks, or even homework!

These tense, start of the day minutes are certainly not the happiest times for parents, many of whom have their own worries about getting ready for the work day.

The daily 'getting the kids ready ritual' can wear out any adult and get everybody’s day off on the wrong foot.  Who among us has not heard the familiar refrain, "Mommy, I can't find my other shoe." "Where's my coat?"

Like most everything in life, preparing defenses against the most common offenses, will pay huge dividends. Bundle these five tools together for an MRE KIT (Morning Readiness Events Kit) that will make everyone's day a little smoother.

            1. Organize: Get ahead in the morning race by putting the school clothes together in advance - perhaps the night before.  You might wish to assemble a day ahead or even a full five days worth of the kids' attire.  Group the pants and shirts together on the same hanger and clip the socks on the hanger as well.  Designated specific areas for shoes and jackets.

            2. Hangers for a Line-up: Get the kids involved in a project to making special hanger organizers.  Take pieces of cloth (you can use any kind of fabric) and cut them to fit over the hangers.  The kids can use fabric paint to write one day of the week on each organizer.  Then they can pick out their clothes for an entire week and put the outfits on hangers, with added the fabric organizer over the top.  With a little bit of sewing, you can add a pocket to the front of each organizer for socks and a other small items.

            3. The Night Before: You can also have the kids set out their clothes before they go to bed.  Let them select what to wear and then designate a special sector where the outfits will be placed.  It can be the top of a bureau, or they can be stashed at the foot of the bed.  Ensure that the outfit is complete, including the footwear.

            4. Communications Ban:  Turning on the television in the morning is pretty much a guarantee that time will be wasted and there will end up being a hasty last minute charge that can result in almost complete disorder and confusion.  Ban the box!  No T.V. in the A.M.

            5.  This final Tool might hurt, but..... Another way to avoid the 'last minute school-day shuffle blues' is to get up 30 minutes earlier in the morning.  That extra half hour will be a big help when there's a last minute 'snafu' as there often is.  If nothing else, you might find it worthwhile to use this quiet time before everyone else is up, to have a solitary and leisurely cup of coffee.
