Why Your Ears Are Burning...

Though I think this applies mostly to bureaucrats/politicians, I might be a little guilty, and perhaps you too.

How many times when our ears are burning,  is it our own fault? Did we knowingly or otherwise, set a little fire that set touched off that inflammation in our ears?

It seems most noticeable these days in our politicians and it comes from both sides of the aisle - the Red and the Blue.

It reminds me of when we were kids.  Whenever there was a problem in our house my stock
 answer to Mom was....

"I didn't do it!"

Then after my brother and sister also chimed in with "I didn't do it!", Mom said...
"Oh I guess nobody did it!"

But, with our politicians it seems like they don't engage in the "I didn't do it" game as much as they play the "Blame Game".

When anything goes wrong they like to blame the media, or the opposite political party.  As I think about it, they actually play both games as once.

"I didn't do it" and "It's the other guy's fault, not mine."

So that's it for me in this little post on Adventures in Type and Space....and if you didn't like it, don't blame me.  It's not my fault. I didn't do it!

Short Story Theater's Top Download

The Most downloaded episode from Short Story Theater for the week ending 15-02-2020 is the story of Chalky Jones. He grew up in Dodge City in 1875 in the shadow of the Long Branch Saloon when the owner, Charlie Bassett, was elected the town's first sheriff. That part of the story is true, while the rest of it comes from our "FEMME FATALE" collection of 'yarns'. You'll get the connection, if you listen to the tale by clicking this link --- https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/22303994/download.mp3

Someone Who Understands You

For most of us, finding someone who really understands us is a difficult problem.  Some fortunate few discover such a person at a young age and spend 50 years or more in harmonious matrimony.

There are many individuals who have longtime, close friends - people whose strings are tuned so closely to their own that they can almost converse, without actually speaking.

But a great number of men and women have no such confidant.  No one upon whom they can safely unburden themselves of their deepest secrets, or ask their most pressing questions.

My friend Knotso Clanky finds himself in that awkward position, where although he knows a great many people, there's not a single one who could serve as Frick to his Frack.

Finally Knotso came up with a solution which he shared in a recent cartoon.  While it may not be a perfect answer to the problem, it may work well.  Time will tell!

Red Sox Give Away Babe Ruth Again!

The Boston Red Sox who famously gave away Babe Ruth, the greatest player in history for a case of coffee and a dozen do-nuts, have done it again.

They've traded MVP Mookie Betts for a Quarter Pounder and a large bag of greasy fries.

Or have they?

Short Stories with a Long Tail (Short Story Theater)

Hello, I'm Basil Nightingale, the host of Bill Russo's
Short Story Theater and the Ghosts of Cape Cod Podcast.

Join us on I-Tunes, YouTube, I-Heart Radio, Spreaker, and every other major audio-video site on the World Wide Web.

Our tales are short, but they have a long tail which may keep you thinking about them for some time.  Whether you like your audio beverage shaken or stirred, you'll like our servings because every glass has a twist mixed in.

Here's a link to one of our plays, ably performed by the Mighty Allen Art Players.

Let me give you a brief synopsis of
'Murder in the North End".

A 'Contractor' from the North Shore (about 20 miles from the Massachusetts Capital) takes a piece of work in the North End of Boston, reputed to be the center of  organized crime in America.  The target is sitting at a table by herself, in the Victory Casa - an authentic Italian restaurant on Hanover Street, the heart of Little Italy.

She's calmly eating Gnoccis and GiGis. (These 'Paisan' delights will be explained for you in the story)

The contractor is in a hurry to get the job done because he told his wife he'd pick up groceries for dinner at the Gloria Chain Store in Beverly, but it's getting late. Suddenly the target waves him over to her table, where a surprise awaits.  Click the link: https://www.spreaker.com/user/11578348/murder-in-the-north-end
